Tennessee Titans Colton Dowell expands his knowledge among new personnel

We are now a month into the Tennessee Titans’ offseason program and there is already a very noticeable difference in the way this coaching staff operates compared to the last one.

Not only do we get specific details and fantastic explanations from head coach Brian Callahan and others on various issues, we also hear players praise the new staff for their approach.

The most recent example of this is wide receiver Colton Dowell, who shared this Titans Colosseum podcast that he learns things he has never learned before.

“I’m learning things about offense that I didn’t really think I would want to learn,” Dowell said. “Things intrigue me now that I wasn’t a part of. It used to be just give me the routes and I’ll run the route and you might throw the ball to me.

“They just explain the quarterback reads and how they read them,” he continued. “There are different things that can happen in a defense that can change our route or our play. They’re great teachers and they can motivate us without necessarily having to shout, and there’s not a lot of rah-rah going on. We’re just all – I don’t know how they do it – we’re just all motivated for one goal right now.”

Quarterback Will Levis also recently spoke about the new coaching staff, saying his relationship with Callahan is unlike any other he’s had with a coach.

“Like, I think it’s just trying to gain his trust as a player,” Levis said of Callahan. “I feel like there is a friendship, but I’ve never really felt like it’s a friend with a coach. You always have that dynamic where he’s the boss and I’m his worker. But he’s done a good job of coming in with a mentality of ‘hey, I’m the coach, what I say gets done and I’m going to tell you what to do, but I’m also here for you and to talk about it.’ something.’

“So I feel like I’ve been able to comfortably talk to him about things other than football. He’s been great on that front.”

After years of guarding every piece of information like gold at Fort Knox, it’s refreshing to have a technical staff that provides the kind of information it has to date. And it is clear that the players are also happy with the new group.
